MEN AND LAUNDRY: THE SNIFF TEST AND THE LINEUP
March 17th, 2009 by Stephanie MatsumotoLet’s not kid ourselves. Women do laundry more than men. And what I mean is women are more likely to wear something once and throw it in the laundry. Granted, women, too, are environmentally conscious, so your defense of saving on soap and water should fail. However, it is not to say that men are not grooming themselves well. It just seems they have an aversion to “letting go” of their t-shirts, jeans, pants, and shirts into the laundry, at least anytime before three days. Socks may be the only exception. You know you probably use one of several tests to determine whether it passes to the laundry pile. First, you may sniff it. Is it clean enough to stretch it one more day? Your clothes may be slung over the chair, thrown in a corner, or spread over the bed. As you determine the day’s outfit, “The Sniff Test” gets used. Of course, if it doesn’t smell, it may possibly get one more day! (Ugh!) Another test is “The Lineup.” In an orderly manner, clothes are worn in sequence-without deviation. This way, you can wear it a couple times, without regard if you are wearing the same outfit on consecutive days. Fashion is not the priority, obviously. Function is. When the outfit expires after a couple days, it goes in the laundry and on to the next shirt and pants. Maybe all of you may have more tests, so please share. Funny thing is, we have not even touched talking about those that need drycleaning.
